Centre for the creation of dance and performing arts
The former Renoir cinema in Les Corts has been repurposed as a centre for the creation of dance that specialises in artistic practices involving the body and movement.
La Caldera is a centre for creation that has been focusing on artistic practices related to the body and movement since 1995, and is promoted by a group of creators, partners and artists with eclectic careers and experience in several fields. The activity of the centre focuses on welcoming and supporting the processes of creators and proposing innovative contexts in which to share the results.
La Caldera aims to become a facilitating space for dialogue and support, enabling research, discussion and the exchange of practices and knowledge between creators, as well as their dissemination among said creators and the citizenship.
Objectives
To support contemporary performance creations related to the body and movement.
To provide creators with an environment where they can work, engage in discussion and receive support.
To propose laboratory, research and training spaces.
To facilitate contexts for the exchange of experiences and thoughts related to creation.
To promote innovation, risk taking and performance-related experimentation.
To strengthen the creative fabric and lend continuity to the work done by creators.
To put together collaborative network projects with local, national and international agents to promote the circulation of the work of creators.
To facilitate the access of audiences to contemporary creations by providing an open and flexible space in which to share the processes and results of the work of creators and to encourage active dialogue with the audience.
To develop community and participatory artistic projects linked to the territory.

La Caldera is a collective project led by a group of artists that originally formed in 1995 in Vila de Gràcia, Barcelona. For 20 years, it has functioned as a pioneering centre for the creation of dance and performing arts from Catalonia and the rest of Spain. In 2015, following the renovation and adaptation of the municipal building that once housed the old Renoir cinema, La Caldera initiated a new stage for the neighbourhood of Les Cortes and joined the public network of Art Factories promoted by the Barcelona City Council. La Caldera is currently a hybrid model (private management of a public building) that is enriched by the project’s 20 years of history and the experience of its team.
