Subvention for professional theatre activities (entities)
These subventions are awarded to professional theatre activities by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and include the following types:
A) Support for the organisation of unofficial training activities for professionals
B) Support for new creation, production and public presentations of shows. Funding can be requested for any productions that are considered to be a new show. “New shows” also applies to revivals or revisions of shows that were originally produced at least 4 years ago
C) Support for the exhibition of shows
D) Support for dissemination activities through shows, festivals and other similar events
Applying for these subventions can only be done online, and applicants will require a digital certificate to submit their application.
In the event that Tràmits – Gencat unexpectedly stops working on the last day of the application period, applicants must immediately send a message to the contact address to report the error. The duly signed form and a screenshot (Prt Scrn key) showing the error message returned by the system and the time at which the incident occurred must be attached.

Who it is aimed at
- Non-profit private entities that conduct the entirety or part of their activity within the field of theatre.
- Groups of non-legal entities that collaborate to carry out joint projects, as long as all members who will be considered beneficiaries are non-profit private entities.
The following ARE NOT ELIGIBLE for these subventions:
- Public administrations, entities from the institutional public sector, independent public entities, corporations governed by public law and consortiums.
- Entities promoting popular and traditional Catalan culture and cultural heritage.
Compensation and amount
The following are considered as expenses eligible for subvention:
- Within Modality A, any expenses arising from the organisation of training activities for professionals in the form of seminars, training days, workshops, courses, etc. Official training and activities promoted by arts centres or schools are excluded.
- Within Modality B, any expenses arising from the creation, production and release of a theatre show (rehearsals, stage design, lighting, costumes, residencies, etc.).
- Within Modality C, any expenses arising from the exhibition of shows: national and international tours of a single production or a collection of productions.
- Within Modality D, any expenses arising from the organisation of professional activities aimed at disseminating theatre, in the form of a festival, show or similar. This excludes commercial fairs.
Regarding joint productions, the subvention will only apply to the part being co-produced by the applicant.
Regarding associations, the expenses invoiced to the entity by the members of its governing body are accepted, in accordance with General Term 6.10 (Access the General terms)
Regarding Modalities A, B and C, contributions in kind are accepted as part of the cost of the project, in accordance with General Term 6.3 (Access the General terms)
Application date
From 17 April to 2 May 2018
Terms
To be eligible to obtain this funding, applicants must meet the requirements and terms established in General Term 4 (Access the General terms), along with the following:
a) Regarding training activities (Modality A), the new creation, production and public presentation of shows (Modality B) and the exhibition of shows (Modality C), applicants must submit the projects as part of a single application for a maximum of three modalities.
b) Regarding dissemination activities (Modality D), applicants can submit just one application, separate from those submitted for any other modalities, if applicable.
c) Regarding training activities (Modality A), training must be classroom-based. The activities will charge their participants and must take place within Catalonia.
d) Regarding the new creation, production and public presentation of shows (Modality B), these shows must be premiered in Catalonia during the natural year in which the subvention is awarded, and at least 10 performances must be planned for Catalonia within a maximum of 18 months after the date of the premiere. Performances carried out in rehearsal spaces do not count.
e) Regarding the exhibition of shows (Modality C), of the final total of performances, at least 10 must take place in Catalonia during the natural year in which the subvention is awarded.
Selection criteria
Applications will be assessed according to the following criteria:
General criteria
a) Cultural and artistic relevance of the project (up to 4 points)
- Professional background of the applicant and the members of the artistic, technical or training team included in the proposal (up to 1 point)
- Degree of relevance of the project and its development (up to 1 point)
- Significant contribution of content to the artistic or training context (up to 1 point)
- Catalan authorship of the submitted project. In the case of Modality A, this applies to the authorship of the content of the training activity. In the case of Modalities B and C, this applies to the authorship of the performed plays that are part of the submitted artistic project. In the case of Modality D, this applies to the authorship of the content of the dissemination activity.
For the purposes of these terms, “Catalan author” is understood as an author residing in Catalonia and, in the case of deceased authors, those who were born or resided for most of their lives in Catalonia (1 point).
b) Social return of the project (up to 3 points).

Contribution to the creation, building and loyalty of audiences or the promotion of the professional specialisation in the case of training (up to 1 point)

Consistency of the communication plan (up to 1 point)

Assessment of the exploitation plan of the project (up to 0.5 points)

Internationalisation possibilities (up to 0.5 points)
c) Viability of the project and quality of management (up to 3 points)

Adjustment of the budget to the resources required for the execution of the project (up to 1 point)

Degree of professional specialisation of the artistic and technical teams involved (up to 1 point)

Level of funding planned outside of that provided by the subvention from the Oficina de Suport a la Iniciativa Cultural (OSIC) (up to 1 point)
Additional criteria
a) Relevant impact of the activity in an area within the Catalan territory where it is not common to carry out this type of initiative or to work closely with the environment and the fabric of local associations (up to 0.5 points)
b) Project on a residency basis (0.5 points)
For the purposes of these terms, residency is understood as any project that is carried out in collaboration with a specialised cultural facility, whether private or public, which puts the necessary resources to carry out the professional work at the disposal of the resident artistic team for a minimum period of seven days (not necessarily consecutive). Under no circumstances will a project be considered as a project in residence when it is carried out in a facility owned by the entity applying for the subvention.
Furthermore, the project in residence must include a dissemination plan that relates to the social fabric, promotes the creation of new audiences, or participates in the programming of the facility.
c) Projects submitted by emerging creators understood as the first professional project promoted by the creator (0.5 points)
d) Social inclusion actions or activities aimed at the most vulnerable collectives or those at risk of social exclusion (0.5 points)
e) Project planning regarding accessibility and the promotion of the participation of collectives of disabled people (0.5 points)
f) Shows co-produced by (0.5 points):
- Public facilities for performing arts, public festivals, or residencies in public creation centres supported by the OSIC
- The five following markets: Fira Tàrrega, Mostra d'Igualada Fira de Teatre Infantil i Juvenil, Trapezi de Reus, Fira del Circ de Catalunya, Festival Sismògraf, Fira Mediterrània de Manresa.
To be eligible to receive a subvention, applicants must obtain a minimum score of 5 points from the general criteria section. This score will then be added to the score obtained from additional criteria.
Application process
When submitting the application, alongside the documentation established in General Term 8 (access the General terms), applicants must provide the following:
- The sworn statements included in the application form:
- Regarding Modality B, a formal commitment to the public presentation of the proposed production.
- Regarding the residency, in accordance with term 6.1.2.b) (access the General terms), a document subscribed to by the person in charge of the collaborating facility in which the agreements reached by both parties are specified—or an equivalent document.
- Co-production contract, if applicable.
Those persons who are proposed as beneficiaries of the subventions, will be required to provide the specific documentation detailed in General Term 12.5 (access the General terms) and Specific Term 7 (access the Specific terms).
