Eighth Banc Sabadell Foundation – Hangar artistic research grant
Hangar, an artistic production and research centre, in collaboration with the Banc Sabadell Foundation, is opening its call for applications for grants to undertake an artistic research project. The grant is intended for artists and researchers in any field, who are Spanish nationals or who reside in Spanish territory. Both artists and researches can apply for the grant.
Presentation
The Banc Sabadell Foundation’s goals include that of promoting dissemination, training and research activities, in the fields of science and culture, which are aimed at society as a whole. What is more, the Banc Sabadell Foundation has an established network of various research organisations, including universities and research foundations which represent not just the organisation’s commitment to innovative research but also considerable collaborator potential.
Hangar’s goals include that of maintaining (understood as generating, updating, revising, repairing and sustaining) the conditions needed to facilitate artistic production and research, understood as practices and forms of critical speculation capable of responding to contemporary debates and emergencies. Hangar understands art as a productive practice of knowledge and therefore champions artistic research as a fully fledged category of research, endowed with a specific method for discovering and producing knowledge.
The call for grant applications
Hangar, an artistic production and research centre, is opening a call for grant applications for a researcher who is a Spanish national or who resides in Spanish territory and is in the process of carrying out an artistic research project. Projects can be presented for grants, both if they are carried out in a doctoral-thesis format or outside an academic framework. The call will consider artistic-research projects at any of their stages that require Hangar’s context and/or services for their development and which, in addition, include initiatives for opening the process and sharing the knowledge generated. The project selected will be carried out in Hangar during a residency of eight consecutive months, to be decided between February and October 2023.
1. Goals
General:
– To create a unique research space where traditional academic methods, based more or less indirectly on scientific models, merge radically with methods typical of artistic contexts. The confluence, adaptation, versioning or hybridisation of ways of performing traditionally segregated research fields should give rise to methodological innovations and ways of generating, conveying and validating different and complementary knowledge to the academic apparatus.
Specifics:
– To promote experimentation in the field of artistic research and the critical exploration of its research habits and methods, while maintaining the commitment to rigour.
– To facilitate the resources needed for carrying out artistic research projects.
– To contribute to the characterisation of the notion of artistic knowledge.
– To promote the documentation, publication and dissemination of artistic research.
