Baden-Württemberg Catalonia Grant 2018
For the third consecutive year, Hangar is making public its grant application process for an exchange between artists working in the Baden-Württemberg land and Catalonia. This grant was initiated in 2015 as an initiative of the Barcelona Goethe Institute, the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart –WBK and the Hangar centre for production and research in the visual arts, Barcelona, and is receiving support from the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg –MWK- and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The aim of this call is to award a travel and production grant to four artists (2 from Baden-Württemberg and 2 from Catalonia) to support the development of arts projects linked to the specific contexts of each of the participating centres and institutions, foster interregional exchange between creators and make possible dialogue and experiences between two arts communities and their respective social collectives.

Target Candidates
Participation is open to all visual artists of any age and nationality who live in Catalonia and are developing projects in the field of contemporary public art, performance art, installation, sound art, visual and audio-visual arts and new media.
Residency Duration
8-week residency in Stuttgart (from late October to mid- or late December 2018) or 6-week residency in Barcelona (from 15 October to 30 November 2018)

Provisions and Benefits
- Barcelona – Stuttgart – Barcelona return journey.
- Endowment: 1.600 € for maintenance (2 months) and 800 € for production costs (amounts are gross figures).
- Accommodation and workspace.
- Use of centre infrastructures.
- Occasional technical assistance. If your project requires full-time commitment, the costs will be deducted from the production estimate.
The residency will not cover medical insurance. Artists must bring in person a valid form of medical insurance for the period of the residency.
Conditions
- Application must be submitted via the online form.
- Each artist must submit only one project for the residency application.
- During the residency, the successful artists must commit to keeping in active contact with the resident artists of the host city.
Participation in this competition assumes an acceptance of its rules and the decision of the committee, as well as any changes that may arise later due to factors beyond the control of the two centres.
Commitments to be undertaken by chosen project
The successful artist must commit to:
- Participating throughout their residency in communication and promotional events linked to the project.
- Deliver a final report of the project to each centre and an assessment of the residency at some point during the two months after its completion.
- Present the results of the residency after its completion. In Barcelona, the presentation will take place in the Arts Santa Mònica centre. In Stuttgart, the equivalent will take place at the Kunstverein de Stuttgart or another similar place. Depending on the presentations payment of artists’ fees and costs will be taken into consideration.
- Present the results of the residency at Hangar, as part of Paratext.
- Include logos of the participating institutions.
Assessment Criteria
Priority will be given to:
- The interest of the proposal according to the working practices of both centres involved in the residency.
- The feasibility that the project will resolve the themes considered.
- A realistic assessment of the time scale and fit of the project aims to the context of the resources of the participating centres.
- The transversality of the project itself, that is, how its results can be applied and intersect with other contexts and individuals.
- The potential of the project to involve the network of participants at the participating centres and institutions.
- Cultural, artistic and social impact and projection of the residency.

Applicant Submission
Artists from Catalonia interested in applying for this grant must fill out the form including a description of the project to be developed.
The application form can be submitted in English, Catalan or Spanish. If the application is submitted in Catalan or Spanish, a pdf file of the anticipated project in English must be sent to marzia@hangar.org. The pdf must include exactly the same contents as the online application. If the document is not submitted according to the conditions of this call for applications it will be considered null and void.
