Artist Stays at the Hangar Residence
Hangar has opened its call for hosting artists of any nationality who require services, work spaces, accommodation and the artistic context offered by the centre for the development of their research project and/or arts production.
Hangar’s artist residence is located at the entrance to the manufacturing premises where the centre is based. The house comprises a ground floor and first-floor apartment (80.99 m² and 62.59 m² respectively). Each floor has two double bedrooms, a bathroom, living room and a kitchen. It also has access to a garden.
Accommodation for each artist comprises a single bedroom, a shared kitchen-dining room and a bathroom shared with one other resident artist.
The available work space consists of a workshop of between 30 and 60 m² (the 30m2 spaces are for individual use, the 60m2 are shared by two artists), located on the first floor of one of the centre’s units. The space contains work tables, electrical power socket, water point, internet connection (Wi-Fi), showers and heating.

Length and Dates of Residency
From one to three months, starting in May 2019
There are 5 specific places available for carrying out residencies between the following dates:
- 2-31 May (1 place)
- 1 June-31 August (1 place)
- 4 November-20 December (3 places)
In the application please indicate two date options for the residency and also your flexibility.
Please also bear in mind that Hangar closes during the week of 15 August. Furthermore, for the duration of August, some libraries, shops and suppliers in Barcelona and throughout Spain close for holidays.

Prices
1. Residence and work space: 525 euros per month + 21% VAT.
2. Prices include light, water, internet and Wi-Fi.
Hangar offers

3. Supervision throughout the project’s development:
- Free advice in matters pertaining to arts production (advice in production planning, preparation and management of budgets etc.).
- Free weekly advice as part of Open Thursdays on issues relating to digital imagery, development of interactive projects, digital production and DIY synthesisers.
4. Dissemination of the project on the internet and organisation of a public presentation as part of "Paratext", a monthly programme of short and longer presentations by Hangar’s resident artists and international artists in residency.
5. 20% discount on all production services, courses and rent of Hangar’s spaces and materials.
The residency does not include any medical insurance. Each resident must request personally their own medical insurance in their country of origin which is valid for the entire period of their residency at Hangar.
Formalisaton of the Residency
Selected candidates will have to pay a deposit of 10% of the total cost of the residency at some point during the period of 15 working days after hearing news of the result. Not submitting this payment within the established timeframe will imply the cancellation of the residency. Once the residency has been formally agreed, it will not be possible to change the dates.
Selection
The selection will be made by Hangar’s Scheduling Committee.
Assessment Criteria
The applicant’s CV, the interest and viability of the proposal alongside the project’s ‘fit’ with the resources offered by Hangar and its network of partners.

Candidate Application
The application must be completed in PDF format and sent via email to marzia@hangar.org with the heading “Call for International and National Residence 2018 Hangar”.
The document must contain:
- Personal details (Full name, date and place of birth, DNI or passport number, email and telephone contact).
- Dates during which the residency would ideally take place (chosen from those that appear in the rules and regulations).
- Artist Statement. This isn’t a biography but a brief account of the project’s artistic identity, what defines it thematically, theoretically and formally (0 to 2500 characters, spaces included).
- CV (2500 characters maximum, spaces included).
- Covering letter giving reasons for wanting the residency (2500 characters maximum, spaces included).
- Project (2500 characters maximum, spaces included).
- Graphic dossier (up to a maximum of 6 images with their technical specs).
- URL (only for videos). This field is optional if images have been added to the graphic dossier, obligatory if none have been added. One URL only must accompany each video of piece of animation (personal website, Vimeo YouTube, Blip or any other). The committee will view up to 5 minutes of video.
