Creation Residencies at El Círcol in Badalona
The El Círcol theatre is launching for the first time its creation residencies, a new project for the 2018-19 season.
With the residencies, this cultural, social and sporting organisation wants to give a boost to all emerging dramatic arts companies that require a space for the creation of their shows.
The sole condition is that the company gives a performance as part of the El Circol programme schedule for the forthcoming 2018-19 season.

Conditions
On offer:
- Rehearsal room from Monday-Friday, between 10 am and 2 pm, to be agreed based on the needs of each company.
- A Residency lasting a minimum of three weeks to a maximum of three months.
- Performance of the work at El Círcol theatre within our programme schedule. With profits for the organisation and with the option of producing three more performances in our schedule with takings divided 50-50 between the company and the theatre.
- During the week prior to the performance the hall will be available for rehearsals and assembly with the venue’s technical apparatus.
- Support will be offered for the promotion of the show via our social networks and our own programme listings.
Requirements:
- That group members are students or professionals in the dramatic arts.
- That they are part of a company or association.
- That the project hasn’t been performed prior to this residency.
- That they have a technician.
- That they specify, in scheduling and in communication and publicity, that El Círcol is co-producer of the show.
- That they hold the author’s copyright for the work and are responsible for the author’s management and costs.
- That they are willing to take part in the launch/premiere of the selected resident artists, to publicise the projects and establish networks between companies.
Formalisation of the residency
The company and the theatre will reach an agreement on the days for rehearsal, when these should start and the dates of the performance. Within the proposed deadlines.
A data log sheet will be provided, to be handed in at the end of the month, to keep track of the days and hours the venue has been used.
A contract stating the conditions for the production of the show and the rules and regulations for using the venue will be signed.
Selection
Once all proposals have been submitted, a team made up of the hall manager, the theatre technician and an individual from the El Círcol theatre will start the assessment and selection of the projects.

The following criteria will be taken into consideration:
- Viability at the technical level
- Financial sustainability
- Whether the project would be received well by our audience
- Innovation
- Viability and continuity
- Language (Positive value is given to Catalan)
Calendar
Period for submission of applications: 1-30 September 2018
Decision: 31 October 2018
Period of residency: November 2018-January 2019
Project Premiere: Second half of February 2019
Applicant Submission
Applications for the residency must be made via the form found on the residency details page. At the end of the form the project must be added as a pdf with the following information:
- Aims of the residency.
- Description of the work/show, synopsis and plot.
- Concept of the mise-en-scène and approximate technical requirements.
- Cast/Production credits with CVs of members of the company, the trajectory of the creators and information about previous productions if relevant.
- Financial sustainability of the project.
- Number of performances a company is willing to produce in our theatre.
- Predicted timetable/itinerary.
- Additional documentation to help with the assessment of the proposal: photos, videos, sketches etc.
Once the form is submitted, a confirmation email will be sent out. The chosen projects will be announced on 31 October.
