Graner Residencies 2019
This round of residency grants is directed to local and international artists and collectives who are working in the fields of dance and live art and who are developing projects of creation or research whose fundamental concept is choreography, the body or movement.
The call for applications for the 2019 residencies is made up of three classifications: associate artists, resident artists (production/research) and emerging artists. The same artist may apply for more than one classification.

Classifications
Classification A: Associate Artists
Classification aimed at artists based in Catalonia, or who maintain strong links with the territory, to develop projects of creation that at the time of applying are in the research or production phase.
El Graner offers:
- Shared study and table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
- Rest space when available and access to communal spaces and kitchen.
- Opportunity to take part in a technical residency.
- Annual economic support (6000 € + taxes).
- Production backing according to the needs of the arts project and in dialogue with the artist.
- Participation in workshops and seminars.
- Access to national and international networks.
- Possibility of artistic advice, in dialogue with the artist and their creation process.
- Tickets for shows and productions.
- The chance to be part of El Graner’s arts committee which meets once every trimester to oversee monitoring and work on the contents of the arts project of the organization. The functions of the associate artist in relation to this partnership with El Graner might include curating practices or being part of the selection committee for the 2020 residency applications, as well as being a member of El Graner’s advisory committee. These work sessions are remunerated.
Associate artists will be selected based on the rigour and viability of the submitted project, its artistic interest, the level of coherence in the development of its artistic practice, its level of experimentation, their trajectory and level of motivation and potential for relating to the various lines of work at El Graner and their ability to take part in the running of a creation centre.
The associate artist will have to establish a dialogue (relating to their practice or creative process) with Graner’s different lines of work (in the community, research, new management models…).
The committee reserves the right to seek further information by means of a personal interview.
Number of positions in classification A: 2 (one for a year, the other for 2 years)
Classification B: Resident Artists
Classification aimed at local, national or international artists and collectives working in the areas of contemporary dances and live arts and who are developing projects of research or creation whose central concept is choreography, the body or movement.
El Graner offers:
- Shared study and table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
- Rest space when available and access to communal spaces and kitchen.
- Opportunity to take part in a technical residency.
In accordance with the regulations of the municipal Arts Factory programme, the granting of access to the space for the purposes of creation is subject to the invoicing of the indirect costs deriving from its usage. The approved public charges are as follows (taxes included):
- Sala G / 100 € weekly
- Sala MT and M / 62.5 € weekly
- Sala P / 25 € weekly
Selection criteria is based on: the aesthetic coherence of the proposal, interest for the research within the world of dance and live art, the search for a personal form of expression and the degree of relationship between the project and other areas of artistic practice and thinking.
Number of positions in classification B: 3
Classification C: Emerging Artists
Classification aimed at artists and collectives based in Catalonia in an early stage of their professional careers (fewer than two long pieces premiered) and who are developing projects of creation or research linked to contemporary dance and live arts. The aim is to provide specialist support and backing to the chosen artist or collective in response to the specific needs of the processes of the proposed creative project.
For this classification we are initiating a new partnership between El Graner and La Caldera, who will coordinate the resources of both structures with the aim of offering:
- Shared study and table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
- Rest space when available and access to communal spaces and kitchen.
- Possibility of generating occasions for opening up the process, sharing project materials and establishing dialogue with other professionals.
- Opportunity to take part in a technical residency.
- Economic support of 1500 Euros + taxes
- Artistic backing.
- Production consultation.
- Access to national and international networks.
- Possibility of a public presentation of the proposed project at the end of the residency.
- Access to participation in other contexts and projects organized by both creation centres that might be considered able to add to/enrich the project: attendance at programme schedules, participation in transmission contexts and professional conferences.
Selection criteria is based on: the artistic coherence and element of risk of the proposal, interest for the research within the world of dance and live art, the search for a personal form of expression and the degree of relationship between the project and other areas of artistic practice and thinking.
Number of places in classification C: 1
Selection
The selection committee is made up of five members: one member designated by the APDC, one member designated by the ACPDC, two experts in the local or international fields of live art and the coordinator of Graner.

Documentation must be sent by email to info@granerbcn.cat, in Catalan, Spanish or English, specifying in the message heading the name of the individual or collective applying for the residency and which of the three classifications is being sought.
Documentation to be submitted according to classification
Classification A: Associate Artists
- Text (maximum of 5 pages) explaining the key concepts and the arts project(s) to be developed by the creator over the next two years (these can be creation, research, writing, curation, education, etc)
- CV or personal biography.
- Links to previous work.
- Video (attachment or url link) of a maximum 4 minutes explaining the reasons for wishing to be an associate artist of Graner.
- Calendar of work forecast for 2019 (work dates at Graner will be decided with the artist on the basis of the application and availability of spaces at the centre).
Classification B: Resident Artists
- A text (maximum 5 pages) explaining the initiative and the key concepts of the project. As an alternative or complement to this document and bearing in mind the different moments and phases in which the projects submitted in classification B might be found, a brief synopsis of the project and a video with material detailing the creative process up until the present time (rehearsals, examinations of the process, etc.) can be submitted.
- CV or personal biography of the artist, collective or company as well as their partners.
- Links to a maximum of three previous pieces of work.
- A document specifying the support structures and the project timescale (at Graner work periods can be divided throughout 2019 into stays of a minimum of a week up to a maximum of two months. Dates of work at El Graner will be decided with the artist on the basis of the application and the availability of spaces at the centre).
Classification C: Emerging Artists
- A text (maximum of 5 pages) explaining the initiative and the key concepts to be developed. As an alternative or complement to this document and bearing in mind the different moments and phases in which the projects submitted in classification B might be found, a brief synopsis of the project outlining the project and the intentions and aims to be developed, a video with material detailing the creative process up until the present time (rehearsals, examinations of the process, etc.) and other forms of complementary material can be submitted.
- CV or personal biography of the artist, collective or company as well as their partners.
- Links to a maximum of three previous pieces of work.
- A document specifying the support structures and the project timescale (at Graner work periods can be divided throughout 2019 into stays of a minimum of a week up to a maximum of two months. Dates of work at El Graner will be decided with the artist on the basis of the application and the availability of spaces at the centre).
