Creation Residencies
These are designated for hosting projects in their totality or in a specific phase of the creation process. The aim is to offer time and space for exploring in greater depth the processes and work materials within a context that allows for the development and evolution of the projects submitted.
La Caldera offers:
- Free rehearsal space. The timescale (intensity, duration, schedule...) will be examined and agreed upon so as to best fit the needs and rhythms of each project, taking into account issues of availability in relation to other activities developed at La Caldera.
- Travel costs within Spain and the European Union and possible accommodation will be covered.
- Possibility of support, dialogue and artistic monitoring during the work process.
- Possibility, when considered opportune, of establishing suitable contexts for sharing the creation processes and exposing them to outside examination at different levels of exhibition; from small professional groups to the general public as part of the Càpsules de Creació en Cru (public encounters)
- Free registration for Sporá Prógrama
- Option of taking part in some of the different activities, exchange projects and joint partnerships produced by La Caldera

Technical Residencies
La Caldera has at its disposal one room with blackout curtains and technical equipment for enabling work on the mise-en-scène and putting on open performances for a maximum audience of 100 people, ideal for hosting small and medium-format technical residency projects in the final stage of production.
La Caldera offers:
- Continuous access to the room for a minimum period of 3 and maximum of 5 days to facilitate the implementation of the project. The period of use and timetable will be agreed with the creators in line with the needs of each project and availability of the centre.
- Technical equipment: lights, sound, video projector.
- Free technical services and assistance for assembly and dismantling.
- If the project-in-residence does not have its own technical staff or insufficient numbers for the aims of the residency, the option of further technical support will be examined and terms and conditions agreed in advance.
- Travel costs within Spain and the European Union and possible accommodation will be covered.

Residency for Emerging Artist or Collective
This residency is aimed at artists and collectives based in Catalonia who are in the initial phase of their professional activity, with fewer than two long premiered shows behind them, and who are developing creation and research projects linked to contemporary dance and living arts. The aim is to provide support and specialist monitoring for the chosen artist or collective, attending to the specific requirements of the intended process of creation.
For this category we are initiating a new partnership between La Caldera and El Graner, who will coordinate their joint resources to offer:
- Free rehearsal space. The timescale (intensity, duration, schedule...) will be examined and agreed upon so as to best fit the needs and rhythms of each project, taking into account issues of availability in relation to other activities developed at La Caldera.
- Possibility of creating occasions for widening the process, sharing work materials and establishing dialogue with other professionals.
- Possibility of doing a technical residency.
- Economic support of 1 500 € + taxes
- Arts monitoring
- Production advice with Elclimamola.
- Possibility of a public performance of the project at the end of the residency.
- Freedom to take part in other contexts and projects organised by both creation centres that might be considered fruitful or enriching for the project: attendance at programming meetings, participation in transmission contexts and professional conferences.
- Free registration for Sporá Prógrama
- Access to internet via Wi-Fi
- Exposure and dissemination through the centre’s diverse channels of communication
Spaces
The main resource available is access to work spaces. La Caldera has three rooms with different dimensions, configurations, equipment and possibilities that determine the sort of project that can be accommodated:
Assessment Criteria
The overriding criterion will be the intrinsic quality of the arts project submitted and its interest within the context of contemporary dramatic creation. Thereafter, other factors and criteria will be taken into account, coinciding with the lines of work currently developed at La Caldera. For guidance, these are:
- Clarity of explanation and planning of proposal, together with overall project coherence.
- New visions and ways of approaching the creative process that are open to risk and experimentation with languages, methodologies and formats.
- Links with other arts disciplines and fields of knowledge.
- Potential for inspiring a context of reflection and critical thinking around the proposal.
- Particular interest in considering and promoting creative work by young people.
- Willingness and keenness to establish a dialogue with the centre to define possible mechanisms for gathering and sharing knowledge yielding from the creation processes.
- Projects likely to develop actions of mediation and participation in connection with the artistic concerns of the project.
Selection
The selection committee will comprise dramatic arts professionals from various disciplines and with diverse profiles, from both outside and within La Caldera. Once the selection process is completed, the committee’s decision will be made public.
