PROJECTS IN RESIDENCE AT HANGAR
Hangar is opening an announcement for opportunities to become a collective project in residence.
Artistic discipline
Projects in residence at Hangar are collective projects which, while working towards their own goals, are able to generate a conceptual and practical symbiosis with the centre and its users. Their fields of work are related to theoretical or practical research and to experimentation with, and the development of, open and free-access tools that will facilitate creative work, whether technological or otherwise.
Duration of residency
This residency is expected to start in May 2018. Resident projects will be assessed once a year regarding both the project proposal and its relationship with Hangar (in terms of the centre’s project, its community and its facilities). After two years, projects will be required to reapply to secure a potential extension of their stay, which will be dependent upon the development of the project and the consolidation of the community at which it is aimed.

The objectives of the project must include a specific focus on the community itself and the dissemination of the knowledge being generated, resulting in a project that creates opportunities for others. The fundamental value of the project’s presence at Hangar will be based on what it gives back to the community that surrounds the centre. Therefore, projects must display a willingness to serve and support the artistic and core communities of the centre and conduct their work through practices that are realistic and ethically viable from a cultural, social and economic standpoint.
In short, the concept of community and commonality is a fundamental pillar of the Hangar’s resident projects, they must therefore be able to find a way to resonate with the community or to build a new one. The other pillar is the generation and transference of knowledge by allowing artists and other users to access said knowledge and through the creation of learning communities.
