Testimoni Escènic Residencies

Testimoni Escènic is opening its 12th call for applicants interested in free residencies for dramatic projects currently in the last phase of production and is offering, on completion of the residency, opportunities to preview the show in front of an audience.

 

Testimoni Escènic (TE) is a project driven by the Associació Cal Gras – Art i Territori (Association Cal Gras – Art and Territory) and a network of theatrical venues in Central Catalonia, with the aim of supporting creators in the dramatic arts and music. TE backs self-management, territory and mutual commitment to culture.

The chosen projects will have to stage a minimum of 3 previews, to be performed between October 2018 and the end of February 2019. If there is greater demand from the municipalities that comprise the TE Network, there will be a possibility of organising further previews over a longer period of time, in agreement with the companies involved. During December a full schedule of rehearsals will not be possible.

Conditions

The Cal Gras residency includes:

  • Free accommodation and workspace (for rehearsal and production) for a maximum of one week, at the Cal Gras Artists Residency in Avinyó.
  • Use of a fully-equipped theatre for technical rehearsals.
  • Production of previews in various locations within the TE Network.
  • Advice on the production process and support from a network of professionals.
  • One of the projects will be chosen to perform its work at the Nau Ivanow Art Factory in Barcelona, with the option of completing a technical residency.
  • Promotion of the selected projects at different theatrical venues, programmes and festivals.
  • The Associació Cal Gras will keep the takings for the first two performances.

Selection

The panel of judges will be made up of members of the TE Network, the team from Testimoni Escènic i Cal Gras, a professional from the dramatic arts world and the team from Nau Ivanow.

Selection Criteria

The TE team will give particular attention to the following criteria when it comes to making their decision:

  • That the projects are unpublished or unperformed.
  • That there is an implicit desire to research and create new dramatic forms.
  • That the show can be adapted to the technical infrastructure of the TE Network venues.
  • That the company has its own technician.
  • That the projects are viable, with continuity and a professional nature.
  • In the case of performances aims at children and families, the option of carrying out previews in schools and colleges will be received positively.

Applicant Submission

The residency grant is available to all companies and independent creators who present their proposal in accordance with the following conditions.

Send the project in digital format with:

  1. Aims of the residency.
  2. Description of the work, synopsis and plot.
  3. Ideas for mise-en-scène and technical needs.
  4. Proposed residency dates.
  5. Dates for previews and number of performances you are willing to produce.
  6. Trajectory of creator or company, alongside information about previous productions.
  7. The inclusion of additional documents (photographs, sketches, videos, audio etc) that can help with project evaluation is recommended.
