Writing, both critical and theoretical, has been an integral part of Jeff Wall's work, as a support for the corpus of photographic pictures that he initiated in 1978. His first text dates from 1981, and he is still writing to this day. In the suburban scene of Vancouver (British Columbia), Wall sought to combine a rather literary approach to conceptual art with the practice of
cinematographic scripts. In both his photographic work and his texts, this approach coexists with a constant and open reflection on the history of the “pictorial” tradition and that of critical thinking.

The book was edited by Jean-François Chevrier—the greatest expert in Wall’s work. It contains sixteen texts, essays and interviews with international personalities of the art world, including seven texts that have never been translated previously into Spanish and others that are out of print.
