For the Enmedio group, the world has become a fence. A large fence made of many other fences. Fences that exclude, fences that lead to clandestinity, exploitation, constant danger, racism. A multitude of control systems classify and order the mobility of people displaced over the surface of this Fence World. Sometimes, it happens that a body does not accept the condition or place that is assigned to it. In such cases there occurs what they call a short-circuit, an interruption in the operation of the Fence World. The experiences of the groups presented here are illustrative examples of these short-circuits, creative actions capable of dealing with the control systems of the Fence World.

GUESTS:

No Mad Makers

The name of this group from Amsterdam is a play on words that refers to a nomadic, self-aware mode of production. In various refugee camps they organize workshops dedicated to the production of bagpacks, all made with recycled materials from boats and buoyancy aids used by the refugees when they cross the Mediterranean.

Peng!

“Peng!" is an onomatopoeia for a shot. The weapon used by this group of Berlin activists is guerrilla communication. Their project Fluchthelfer.in (Escape Agents) is a social network of anonymous people who help anyone who comes seeking political asylum to cross the southeast border of Germany.

Center for Political Beauty

This group based in Berlin is, according to its members, "an assault team that establishes moral beauty, political poetry and human greatness while aiming to preserve humanitarianism”. In 2014 they appropriated the white crosses in memory of those killed on the Berlin Wall during the cold war period and took them to European borders such as those of Greece, Bulgaria and Melilla. With this analogy they were aiming to remember not the past but the present.

Enmedio

Enmedio (in the middle) is a group of image professionals based in Barcelona (designers, photographers, filmmakers and artists) who were dissatisfied with the lack of connections between art and political action. They decided to give up their usual field of work and place themselves in the middle, in no particular place and in all places at the same time. From this position they explore the transformative power of images and stories through spectacular interventions, using anything they have at their disposal. Through photography, media and design they create interference in the dominant narrative, interruptions in the official explanation of the world.
