Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona
The Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona is a public scientific institution at the service of the community. In 2000, the Museu de Geologia and the Museu de Zoologia were combined to form today’s Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona. These two museums originated in the Museu Martorlell, which was founded in 1878 thanks to the legacy of Francesc Martorell i Peña, and was the first public museum in Barcelona. All the Museum’s contents were initially located in the Martorell building, but in 1924 part of the collections was transferred to the Castell dels tres Dragons, where the city’s Museu de Zoologia was housed until the year 2000.
