Culture and free time. The commemorative plaque was installed at the house where the poet and the cultural activist lived as a couple.
The Barcelona Literary Map continues to grow and indicate places linked to writers from all periods. On this occasion, a memorial plaque was unveiled at C/ Gènova, 25, in the district of Horta-Guinardó, at the house where the poet and visual artist Joan Brossa and cultural activist Pepa Lloris lived.
Pepa Llopis and Joan Brossa became partners in life in 1972. Brossa (1919-1998) was one of the main Catalan avant-garde visual artists in the second half of the 20th century. After exploring the world of poetry, odes and neo-surrealist theatre, he delved deep into the creation of visual poems, such as the Poema visual transitable en tres temps, which can be visited in the area around the velodrome in Horta. After a long artistic career Brossa gained recognition which set him aside as one of the most important figures in contemporary Catalan literature. The Lletra d’Or 1981, the City of Barcelona Prize 1987, the UNESCO Picasso Medal 1988 and the National Visual Arts and Theatre Prize from the Government of Catalonia.
For her part, Pepa Llopis (1925-2011) played a vital role in Brossa’s creative career, as well as the conservation and promotion of the poet’s legacy through the Fundació Joan Brossa.
