La Model. La Model houses a new permanent exhibition with details on how the site is to be transformed into a hub for facilities, housing and a large city park while maintaining its heritage and historical memory.
What will the future La Model be like? What facilities will there be on the site of the former prison? Which buildings will be kept? Now all this information can be found in the new permanent exhibition in the entrance yard to La Model, explaining the transformation process for the whole site in the near future.
La Model is set to be turned into a hub for facilities (7 new ones to be created) and social housing (121 homes), responding to the demands of local residents and organisations. The site will also be surrounded by a large urban park, turning it into a new green lung for the neighbourhood of Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample. All this, without forgetting the historical memory of this imposing building, which was a prison for 113 years.
“La Model es transforma” explains this process of change through an exhibition around the entrance courtyard for La Model, at C/ Entença, 155. Light structures and large banners have been set up in the courtyard for visitors to find out about the changes at the site in four main areas:
- Housing
- Facilities
- Public space and sustainability
- Heritage and memory
The entrance yard is open every day (Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm). This open-access space acts as a public inner quadrangle for use by all local people. This means anybody dropping by as from Wednesday, 30 November, will be able to freely visit the exhibition.
The exhibition also features other materials with information, such as some large-format canvasses at the four corners of the Model block and on the façade itself at C/ Entença 155.
Details on the transformation of La Model and the recently approved by-law project can be found on the website for La Model.
