The entire square located inside Parc de la Ciutadella, by the junction between C/ Pujades and C/ Wellington, and housing the bandstand where Sonia Rescalvo Zafra was murdered will be named after her.
Sonia Rescalvo Zafra was born in Cuenca in 1945 and moved to Barcelona in 1961, at the age of 16. There she became part of the artistic world of El Paral·lel and, more specifically, the Teatre Arnau. She worked for many years as a showgirl, gaining considerable fame.
A group of neo-Nazis brutally murdered her in 1991, at the age of 45, for being a transsexual woman, as she slept in bandstand in the square now bearing her name.
