Ronda de Dalt

Work gets under way to continue covering the Ronda de Dalt, between the Institut Vall d’Hebron and Avinguda de Vallcarca. The project will create 350 metres of public space in addition to the nearly 200 metres already completed.

Right-hand lane of each side of SeRonda de Dalt to be closed from 14 July to 29 August

Disruptions due to works

Work on the construction of the emergency exit shafts on the side nearest the sea gets under way on Monday, 20 October, after the same work was completed on the side nearest the mountain in the spring. The process means traffic will not be able to access Pg. Vall d’Hebron from C/ Arenys, with changes in circulation in the neighbourhood of La Teixonera until March 2026.

Approximate calendar for works

  • 1

June 2024: work gets under way on the structure of the next sector of the Ronda de Dalt to be covered.

  • 2

May 2027: work to cover the section concludes and the process to urbanise the surface area begins.

  • 3

Summer of 2028: work on the surface concludes.

What are we doing?

Work gets under way this summer to continue covering the Ronda de Dalt, between the Institut Vall d’Hebron and Avinguda de Vallcarca. The project will create 350 metres of public space in addition to the nearly 200 metres already completed. This makes for a total of over 20,000 m2 of new public space, with more trees and large parterres with vegetation.

The work is the first step in the major transformation of the neighbourhoods near the ring road: calmer space with less traffic, new spaces for people to spend time in, more greenery, less noise and better environmental quality.

The 'health district'

The Horta-Guinardó district will support the health of local residents, with major new facilities for the whole city linked to the main hospitals (such as the new outpatient building for the Hospital de la Vall d’Hebron), the future headquarters of the Public Health Agency and new health education events at the Institut Vall d’Hebron.

How will the work be carried out?
  1. Preliminary work has already taken place, including the removal of the trees on the ring road.
  2. The initial work on the structure started in summer 2024, installing the central concrete T-shaped wall that will support the roof slabs and generate the new surface space above.
  3. The covered section will be regarded as a new tunnel. This means that four emergency exits need to be created, two on each side of the road.
  4. Work on the structure and the installations will be completed in May 2027.
  5. As from May 2027, the new surface will be developed. This will take roughly a year and will be completed according to the Pacte per la ronda de Dalt participatory process. The sessions for this process start in autumn 2024.

What will the new space above the ring road be like?

How will we continue to calm traffic on this road?

The City Council and different organisations have established the Pacte per la ronda de Dalt, a participatory space to discuss and reach agreements on the next steps in the project.
