CIDEU

Definition

The Ibero-American Centre for Strategic Urban Development (CIDEU) is a network of 154 members, of which 125 are Ibero-American cities, and 29 collaborating institutions. Its purpose is to promote the strategic way of thinking about the design and management processes of urban projects to achieve the sustainable development of Latin American cities. It was founded in Barcelona in 1993.

Goals

  • To promote urban strategic thought
  • To reflect on urban strategies and facilitate their circulation
  • To share and manage the knowledge of what is urban strategy, derived from the projects of the cities
  • To boost the economic and social development of Ibero-American cities
  • To promote cultural change for the incorporation of digital technologies in the environment of strategic urban planning (SUP) and build virtual communities on the net.
  • To develop and share methodologies to concurrently plan, manage projects with governance and learn by models.
  • To provide training to improve the professional profiles of people linked to strategic urban plans and projects.
  • To structure a network of cities to improve their strategic positioning

Participation of Barcelona

The General Secretariat is the executive body and has its permanent headquarters in Barcelona, which was the city that promoted its creation.
