The agreement of friendship and twinning between Barcelona and Istanbul was signed on 5th January 1997.
With this agreement, Barcelona and Istanbul, so as to overcome the obstacles faced by local governments, aim to intensify the existing relation between the two cities. The goal is to boost actions that allow knowledge and experiences to be exchanged in the municipal management, and to deepen the human relations between their citizens.
The twinning agreement consists of the mutual commitment towards establishing ties of common interest of the two municipalities.
