The collaboration agreement between Barcelona and Kyoto, focused on the economic development of both cities, was signed on November 15, 2016 with a duration of four years. Among its clauses, it is worth highlighting the exchange of knowledge and best practices on technological innovation and public data management to improve urban policies and mutual support in the organization of business and institutional missions.

A new collaboration agreement with the Prefecture of Kyoto was signed on November 11th, 2021. It includes collaboration in the following areas: economic and social development, start-ups (entrepreneurship and talent), smart city, technological innovation and open data, tourism, creative and cultural industries and mutual support for business and institutional missions.
