Health. The new service is being offered at the centre belonging to the Fundació Sant Pere Claver in Carrer de Vilà i Vilà.
The agreement with the Fundació Sant Pere Claver helps expand the network of centres providing free dental services for vulnerable people. The new clinic comes in addition to the three facilities already providing this service, which between them have handled 19,435 visits since they came into operation.
With an investment of 89,000 euros a year, the new agreement with the Fundació Sant Pere Claver makes it possible to expand the free dental service for vulnerable people by a further 250 patients a year. The new consultation space at the foundation’s facility in C/ Vilà i Vilà will attend to users from Adult Mental Health Centres (CSMA) and Drug-dependency Care and Follow-up Centres (CAS).
The new centre, which started operating on 15 September, brings the number of facilities offering free dental care in Barcelona to four: the centre in Carrer de Bonaplata, in Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, through an agreement with the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona, the centres in Carrer de Viladomat, in L’Eixample, and the municipally operated centre in Plaça dels Eucaliptus, in Nou Barris.
Over 20,000 people attended to by the municipal dentist
As of 31 August, the city’s free dental service had attended to over 2,600 people in vulnerable situations, while the overall number of visits as of 20 September was in excess of 20,000. These figures include children attended to at the facility in Carrer de Bonaplata.
Who is eligible for the free dental service?
The service is aimed at adults and children in vulnerable situations, referred by social services in Barcelona, with income below a specific threshold and with a diagnosed need for dental treatment.
Are there any other advantageous dental services available?
Besides providing treatment for vulnerable people, other initiatives have been started which offer advantages in dental care:
- Dental operator for all citizens with affordable below-market prices.
- Subsidy for a solidarity dental check-up for children and the homeless.
- Agreement for dental clinics belonging to the Dental Care Centres Business Association (AECAD) to offer social pricing to different groups.
