Presentation of the book 'Picasso Barcelona. A Cartography'

The work is signed by Claustre Rafart Planas and explains the history of the relationship between the painter and the city.

On Tuesday 5 December at 7.30 p.m. there will be a presentation of the publication Picasso Barcelona. A Cartography, a book co-published by Ajuntament de Barcelona, Tenov and Picasso Museum. The event will take place in the neoclassical hall of the Picasso Museum, and will be attended by Emmanuel Guigon, director of the Picasso Museum of Barcelona, Claustre Rafart Planas, curator of the Picasso Museum until 2022 and author of the book, and Víctor Amela, journalist who will act as moderator. If you wish to attend, you must book in advance.

The work is a spatial biography of Pablo Picasso and at the same time a guide that reworks and redraws the map of Barcelona in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The route that Rafart proposes unfolds the Barcelona enclaves where the adolescent, young and adult Picasso lived, passed through and was influenced, presenting the places already recognised as part of the Picasso route, as well as those that had not yet been discovered or directly related to the artist.

In Barcelona at the turn of the century, Pablo Ruiz Picasso overcomes adolescence and enters maturity, and the student becomes an artist. Now, like any other young Barcelonian, he makes his way in the profession he has chosen and lives his life unnoticed until he begins to stand out in the avant-garde artistic circles and some of the media take notice of him.

The publication commemorates the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death and the 60th anniversary of the creation of his museum in Barcelona.
