Literary Creators at Highschool
“EN RESiDÈNCiA. Creators at Barcelona’s schools” is a programme by The Barcelona Institute of Culture and the Consortium for Education in Barcelona.
Launched in 2009, EN RESiDÈNCiA links all the processes involved in contemporary creation with education, by putting artists in contact with students and teachers from a school, to make them an active part of the process of creation and share all the different steps within it.
EN RESiDÈNCiA invites creators to develop their own creation processes together with a group of secondary education students and their teachers, during school hours, for an entire academic year. Following this period of residency, students make public presentations on their work and the resulting processes. Each residency takes a minimum of three hours per week for the young participants.
After eight successive editions, 61 residencies in 35 public secondary schools in Barcelona (more than 50% of schools). The schools are chosen through a public tender addressed at all public secondary schools in the city.
The artistic disciplines used so far in EN RESiDÈNCiA are: visual and performing arts, design, creation in performing arts (dramaturgy dance, performance, circus), and musical creation.
Coinciding with the recent designation of Barcelona as a UNESCO City of Literature, and in line with the commitment by EN RESiDÈNCiA to combine different disciplines, for the 2017-2018 edition, five residencies of literary creation (out of a total of 16) will be held:
