Designing the future: what will you find at the Museu del Disseny in 2018?

Three years after settling in Plaça de les Glòries, 2017 has been a year of record figures at the Museu del Disseny. The exhibitions have been enjoyed by more than 223,000 visitors, particularly «David Bowie is» and the tasty «Tapas. Spanish design for food»; more than 2,000 families already know what it is to experience one of our weekend design workshops; the Documentation Centre already has more than 200,000 documents and had nearly 28,000 visitors; finally, the increase in cultural heritage and documentation has been helped by more than a hundred donations since 2014. But what awaits us in 2018 which is just about to start?

The graphic design, the star

If in 2017 the museum incorporated 12 new dresses to update the «Dressing the body» exhibition, from June next year will see the graphic design exhibition expanded and complemented. The period between 1980 and 2003 will welcome the transformations in graphic design with examples from Catalonia and Spain.

Four new exhibitions

In addition to the exhibition on graphic design and the exhibition on Adolf Loos, we are working on two temporary shows: «Design Does. What design does» which will, as of 23rd March, present 15 projects by local and international designers showing the social, human and cultural value of design. At the end of the year we will continue to talk about graphic design: this time with «Advertising on tin, cardboard and tile (1890-1960)» (December 2018), where we will show the productive process, the various techniques and examples of advertising through some 2,500 pieces.

New family workshops

Weekends with the family have been a success in 2017. So we decided to extend the Sunday offering with two new workshops: Objects that create objects on the creation of moulds and Exlibris, Pitribis!

We hope to celebrate a spectacular New Year with you, one full of innovation and design!
