Since 1 June a new section of cycle lane has been in operation on Carrer de la Independència. This segregated cycle lane, which goes up the street, connects the cycles lanes of Parc de les Glòries, at Avinguda Meridiana, and Carrer de Sant Antoni Maria Claret.

The cycle late is situated next to the pavement on the Lllobregat side, running up the street, and is separated from the road traffic by lane separators from Avinguda Meridiana and by a service cordon from Carrer Aragó.

This section enables the connection of the cycle network to be completed, as all the crossroads through which it passes enable cyclists to link with other sections of cycle lane, for example those on the following streets: Consell de Cent, Aragó, València, Mallorca, Provença, Indústria and Sant Antoni Marià Claret.

Improvements to cycling infrastructure

The City Council is continuing to extend the cycling infrastructure in the city in its bid to ensure sustainable, healthy and safe mobility. The months of July and August will be used to make progress on and complete the execution of the new cycle lanes.

Some of them are already under way and will be opening over the coming months, such as the lane that runs along Passeig Maragall – Carrer Freser – Carrer Rosselló, which is scheduled for completion at the end of July; the cycle lane on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, between Plaça Espanya and Carrer Mineria, which will be completed in September; the redevelopment work on Avinguda Diagonal, linked to the cycle lane that covers the section between Facultat d’Empresarials and Parc Cervantes, which is expected to be completed in July; the sections of cycle lane on Via Augusta, between Laforja and Dolors Monserdà, which will be completed in July.

This month work has also got under way on the cycle lane on Carrer Còrsega, between C/Freser and C/ Castillejos, and it is expected that work will begin on various central sections of the cycle lane on Carrer Mallorca; the cycle lane on Gran Via, between Carrer Mineria and Plaça Cerdà, and the cycle lane on Passeig Marítim, between Avinguda Ramon Trias Fargas and Carrer de Trelawny.

The new sections of cycle lane executed in 2022 now have an average of over 24,000 uses per day.
