The Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona foresees closing the year with a historical record number of visitors
As the MCNB kicks off its last campaign of the year with scientific outreach activities this Christmas, it anticipates closing 2024 with more than 370,000 visitors, a record for the museum as a whole, which has recently incorporated the new venue in the Ciutadella Park and is now fully operational.
Under the motto ‘Have a very natural Christmas’, the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona (MCNB) presents a program of family Christmas activities to awaken the scientific curiosity of the little ones. This year there will be activities such as Family Christmas Nest, a space for experimentation and scientific discovery for children from 0 to 6 years, Flipbooks, animation on paper about natural phenomena or ‘Science is not a game?‘, a selection of board games on natural sciences.
Christmas is also an opportunity to see the exhibitions at the Museum’s different sites: the Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona in the Forum Park; at the Martorell Exhibition Center in the Ciutadella Park and at the Botanical Garden of Barcelona in the Montjuic Park.
The MCNB expects to close the year with more than 370,000 visitors at its different venues, which include the Museum, the Botanical Garden of Barcelona, the Historical Botanical Garden and the Martorell Exhibition Center. This represents a record for the museum as a whole, which has recently added the new headquarters in the Parc de la Ciutadella and is now fully operational.
The Museum of Natural Sciences of Barcelona will be a National Museum
The Catalonia Museum Plan, Museums 2030, sets among its objectives the creation of the National Museum of Natural Sciences of Catalonia from the current Consortium of the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona.
As a first step in the acknowledgement process, the Catalan government has recently announced, within the framework of the Barcelona City Council – Generalitat de Catalunya Joint Commission agreements, that it will increase its contribution over the next 3 years in order to become a national museum.
