Sustainability at the AFB
The Photographic Archive of Barcelona implements environmental criteria in the day-to-day running of the centre and in the actions carried out at its headquarters.
In 2016, the AFB obtained the Environmental Quality Guarantee Distinction awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya, and in 2021, we obtained the renewal of the Environmental Quality Guarantee Distinction.
In 2019, a photovoltaic generation system was installed on the roof of the Sant Agustí Convent building, the municipal building where the Photographic Archive of Barcelona is located.
The action measures are articulated through the Energy Improvement Plan for Municipal Buildings (PEMEEM), which aims to save energy and incorporate renewable energies in municipal buildings, and the Program for the Promotion of Solar Energy Generation in Barcelona, which promotes the use of roofs and public space as spaces for generating energy.
The Sant Agustí Convent is the first municipal building with a solar energy panel for self-consumption that has been built with the investment of the citizens. The project aims to encourage residents to play an active role in the evolution towards a new, more sustainable energy model.
The photovoltaic installation generates 38,880 kWh, the equivalent of the electricity needed to cover the needs of seventeen households, and is used for the building's own self-consumption. It also reduces greenhouse gas emissions, with an annual saving of 14,700 kilograms of CO2.
