'Jacques Léonard. Barcelona gitana'

2 June 2011 - 14 January 2012

The Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona showed a selection of photos by Jacques Léonard (Paris, 1909 – L’Escala, 1995). Married to Rosario, a gypsy from the Montjuïc shantytown, he was able to photograph the Barcelona gypsy community from within. Some 3,000 negatives remain of this activity undertaken in the domestic sphere from the early nineteen fifties to the mid-seventies, which is possibly the most important preserved photographic archive on gypsies and the gypsy culture in Barcelona of the twentieth century.
