This edition of Escolab strengthens the link between the educational and scientific sectors, acting as a bridge between schools and research centers.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, 32 research centers have proposed approximately 100 different activities, offered across a total of 274 sessions, with some activities held multiple times. So far, 172 educational institutions have requested participation, with nearly 34,000 student applications. In total, approximately 8,000 students will be able to take part in these activities. After registering on the Escolab platform, teachers can freely choose from activities with available spaces, which will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

A more user-friendly platform

The Escolab website has recently undergone improvements, featuring a new design and enhanced functionality. It now provides detailed information on the activity booking process and includes new FAQ sections. Additionally, a user guide for the new Escolab management system has been added to the “Resources” section, offering clear instructions on how to navigate the platform’s new features.

The platform for managing activity reservations has also been completely updated. Research centers can now upload their activity proposals, while teachers can easily submit requests. The key improvement is the user experience, which has been made significantly more intuitive and straightforward.

Schools that register on the platform can also subscribe to the Escolab newsletter to stay informed about program updates, educational news, and initiatives that promote scientific careers.

Escolab 2023-2024 overview

The 2023-2024 Escolab report, detailing the key data from the previous academic year, has now been published. Last year, 50 research centers and 6,844 students from 131 schools participated, with a total of 151 activities conducted across 411 sessions.

It is noteworthy that 70% of the program’s collaborators were women, primarily from research centers (52.9%) and universities (35.3%). The activities offered included 63 workshops, 51 visits, 40 talks, and 28 demonstrations.

In terms of subject matter, the majority of activities focused on life sciences (8), followed by computer science and technology (4), physics and chemistry (37), social sciences (6), humanities (4), economics and business (1), and other topics (16).

It is also important to highlight that 93.5% of Escolab activities received a very satisfactory or satisfactory rating from participating teachers.

Remaining spots available

Despite the high demand, some activities still have available spots. These include the workshop “The Physics of the Universe for Everyone,” the virtual escape room “Discover the Matheroes, the Supermaterials of the Future!,” a virtual tour of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), and talks such as “The New Pandemic: Mental Health Challenges Among Youth” and “Create Your Idea in 3D,” among others.
