More than 2,100 secondary school students take part in the STEAM day at the Palau Sant Jordi
More than 2,100 second and third year ESO students took part in STEAM Anella, the science and technology matinee organised by Barcelona Municipal Services (BSM) and the School of Engineering of Barcelona East (EEBE) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – BarcelonaTech (UPC), which was held yesterday at the Palau Sant Jordi. The event brought together students from 29 schools in Barcelona and its metropolitan area, Maresme and Gironès.
STEAM Anella turned the Palau Sant Jordi into a science classroom to host fifteen activities and shows that allowed students to experiment with the increase in temperature that is generated in cities with the heat island effect and seek solutions to alleviate it; learn about the brain’s reaction to magic tricks; build automatons to learn about design and technology; or understand how an electric car works from the e-Tech Racing team, formed by students from the EEBE. The day also included activities such as an escape room to explain the role of women scientists in the development of the theory of relativity, and music and dance performances linked to topics such as Newton’s laws of motion.
The BSM and UPC project for the promotion of scientific vocations has been running for six years and has achieved high participation rates: the five days held in 2023 brought together more than 7,500 students. After visiting Barcelona Zoo, Park Güell, Parc del Fòrum and Palau Sant Jordi, STEAM will hold the last day of the 2023-2024 course at the Tibidabo Amusement Park on 8 May.
