Breu història de les lesbianes a Barcelona

Author/s
Isabel Franc (script), Rosa Navarro (Illustrator) and Maria Giralt (original idea)

Researching and reflecting the history of lesbians in Barcelona became the mission of two young master’s students when they realised the extent to which this story had been silenced. With the guarantors of historical memory, the experience of this history’s protagonists and the documents they gathered as a starting point, they take us on a journey in the vernacular of the comic that begins with the leading figures of the Second Spanish Republic, like Lucía Sánchez Saornil, Irene Polo and Anna M. Martínez Sagi.

They reveal the brutality of the Women’s Protection Board, the communicative codes used in clandestinity, the resistance during the dictatorship and the social, cultural, artistic and celebratory explosion of the Spanish transition to democracy, before reaching the turning point represented by the law allowing same-sex marriage in Spain.
