Barcelona 1700

Author/s
Albert Garcia Espuche and Tomas De Montagut Estragués

This book is the 12th in the ‘La Ciutat del Born. Barcelona 1700’ collection and analyses the sphere of law and justice in early-18th-century society. It contains a foreword written by the scientific director of the ‘Barcelona 1700’ collection and 6 articles by academics from different Catalan universities (UB, UdL and UPF). Three law historians explain the rules that regulated power and Barcelona residents’ day-to-day lives. The topics covered include progress in civil and political rights in Catalonia at the beginning of the 18th century, the different channels for the administration of justice that coexisted in Barcelona, a specific type of trial and imprisonment experienced by women accused of adultery, and finally, the high court of the Reial Audiència and its agents.
