Over the course of history, our day-to-day relationship with water has been radically altered by all sorts of technological, economic, social and cultural changes. This seventh book in the Pòsits collection looks at the so-called ‘water revolution’ and the transformations it brought about for the city. The challenges faced in Eixample and the standard set by other major cities laid the foundations for the transition from pre-industrial practices to the new ‘circulatory model’, which compared the water supply and sanitation system to the body’s arteries and veins. This change in model took place between 1867, when the first water tower in the city was built, and 1967, when the arrival of water from the River Ter meant new consumption patterns became generalised.
