Història de la literatura catalana

Volume V on the history of Catalan literature is divided into two parts. The first part looks at the introduction of modern European aesthetics that inspired the new poetry of Romanticism. In the second part, it relates the establishment of the Jocs Florals poetry contests in 1859, that would pave the way towards the progressive Renaixença movement and the richness of Catalan as a literary language, coinciding with the principals of Naturalism. The three great names: Verdaguer, poetry; Àngel Guimerà, theatre and Narcís Oller, novelist, represent the consummation and coming of age of each genre, and would lead Catalan literature towards the Modernist movement at the end of the century.
