To mark International Migrants Day, Barcelona Municipal Immigration Council presents the CMIB awards each year. The aim is to recognise outstanding projects or projects of special interest that help to ensure integration and full citizenship for migrants, and that promote diversity, community harmony and social cohesion.
The theme chosen for this year’s edition is “Young people of diverse origins in Barcelona”, and projects must include initiatives and strategies with the following aims:
- Promoting the defence of rights and raising the visibility of young people of diverse origin.
- Promoting self-organisation and the empowerment of young people and the organisations that represent them in order to achieve these objectives, or that actively contribute to raising awareness, preventing, reporting and combating all forms of racism, discrimination and exclusion.
- They need to have been undertaken with, for, or by young people of diverse origin whose work is related with young people are from migrant backgrounds or who are perceived to be from such backgrounds (that is the children of immigrants and people who are racialised).
- They must be working on strategies to promote social inclusion, entry into the labour market, participation in society and community life, the identities of young migrant people, access to housing and equal opportunities.
- They need to take into account and be in line with the Youth Plan 2017-2021, and the government initiative “La joventut al cap”, and the project should address one or more of the following areas:
- Emancipation: including issues such as education, training, housing and employment.
- Transformation: equality and diversity, participation and membership of associations, cultural participation and collaborative strategies and creativity.
- Wellbeing: overall health, leisure, recreation and sport.
- Districts/ neighbourhoods: co-ordination, services and amenities for young people, public space and the ecological transition.
Projects will be accepted from individuals, groups, associations and other not-for-profit organisations based in Barcelona; from organisations and groups with a branch office in the city, provided they carry out some form of activity in the city of Barcelona, and from individuals, groups and organisations that do not have their headquarters or a branch office in the city but carry out projects that have an impact on the people of Barcelona.
Proposals may be submitted from 4 September, and must be received by 13 October at the latest.
