'Negrata de merda' at Tantarantana
Company LA PULPE TEATRO – Dramatics and Direction: Denise Duncan - Actors: Dani Arrebola, Catalina Calvo, Anna Ferran, Salvador Miralles and Mar Pawlowsky – Staging: Víctor Peralta – Sound Space: Salvador Miralles
Nick comes home from school in tears because Anna has called him “negrata de merda”. Nick’s parents try to convince Anna’s parents to ask their daughter to apologise for this racist insult, but they dismiss the incident as ‘what children get up to’. The battle lines are drawn, neither set of parents is willing to give ground and this triggers a confrontation between the two sets of parents over who are right and a chain of the sadly typical incidents of micro-violence found in our society: sexism, classism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.
The play dramatizes contradictory actions familiar to us all: the gap between speech and facts, the fallacies behind which we hide to avoid facing up to our prejudices, our own erratic behaviour and, when all is said and done, our responsibility in a society where a girl can call a boy “negrata de merda”.
