The Arts Factories at the Biennial City and Science
From 7-19 February, key players in Barcelona’s network of centres for artistic creation will be contributing to the first edition of this conference debating science in the city.
From 7-11 February, Barcelona hosts the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència (Biennial City and Science), a space for exchange and reflection among members of the scientific community along with philosophers, thinkers, artists and members of the public. The speed with which scientific and technological changes are currently taking place is sowing doubts and generating uncertainty in highly diverse areas. The Biennial will bring to the debate all these changes and reflect, also from a cultural perspective, on these dilemmas.
The Arts Factories will also be taking part in this major event which has scheduled nearly 100 free activities at around 70 venues throughout the city. At Fabra i Coats (8 & 11 February) various discussions have been organised around the theme of urban science as well as a master class in Particle Physics with baccalaureate students and teachers to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Hangar (9 February) is staging a workshop on interfaces led by artist-researcher Joana Moll. The ‘Safari de Ciència’ event involves the participation of Ateneu Popular 9 Barris i La Central del Circ (10 February) with the performance of two works in progress that experiment with movement and sound. For its part, La Escocesa (12 & 13 February) will be involved in the series of events with French philosopher Bernard Stiegler on the influence of art and alternative forms of interconnectivity technology, featuring an organised work group led by Stiegler himself. Lastly, Escenari Joan Brossa (19 February) features a conference linking magic with neuroscience.
