Teatre Tantarantana’s community programme
Discover the theatre creation space’s community projects programme
Another theme that defines Teatre Tantarantana is motivation and commitment to supporting stage creations with a community perspective. In this regard, we develop and support projects that strengthen theatre as a tool for social cohesion and which are based on shared values such as interculturality, integration and creativity. Projects requiring a management model based on the community and which open up a collective process for exchanging knowledge and resources. Projects that foster feelings of community, network and riches, in the broadest possible sense of the word.
The Tantarantana ran an intergenerational and intercultural theatre project from 2011 to 2022: the PI(E)CE Project, under the artistic direction of Constanza Brncic and Albert Tola.
The PI(E)CE project brought theatre to people of very different ages, backgrounds and experiences: newly arrived students at the IES Milà i Fontanals secondary school in the Raval neighbourhood and the IES Consell de Cent secondary school in Poble Sec, along with senior citizens from both neighbourhoods. This yearly high point of this community project was a show at the end of the season, following eight months of intense community-creation work carried out during school hours.
Directed by the choreographer Constanza Brncic, who worked from the start of the project alongside the playwright Albert Tola. Both have built up a stage piece over these last few years based on movement work and writing exercises conducted with several languages and cultural expressions on stage, often - though not always - dream-like or based on the flow of memories. Stage creations have made it possible to share dialogue (sometimes plagued by challenges and conflicts, other times generous and constructive) between individuals of different ages and backgrounds: from 1950s and 1960s migrants during Franco's dictatorship to students in newcomer classrooms who have just arrived from the Philippines, Pakistan, Morocco, the Dominican Republic and many other parts of the world.
