DespertaLab - Season of Drama 2020

5 September, 2019 - 00:01 to 3 October, 2019 - 23:59

Nau Ivanow and Sala Atrium are launching the sixth edition of the DespertaLab Season of Drama with the aim of supporting creation in Theatre. The season will provide companies with the space and technical conditions suitable for the creation, production, communication-dissemination and promotion of a stage play and the growth and professionalization of the selected companies.

Arts Discipline

Theatre

Aim

The aim of the season is to give support to companies in the process of creating their play productions and contribute to their insertion within professional networks of arts dissemination and promotion. Beyond providing resources for the production of a play, from the point of creation through to its public dissemination, it offers a formative experience which gives companies the necessary resources and skills for future professional challenges. In short, it is a means of fostering the life of the project beyond its initial creation.

Target Candidate

The project is aimed at professional companies and collectives, or those currently in the process of becoming professional, whose members are aged 35 and under. These organisations must establish a project manager. The manager and at least 60% of the company members must be under the age of 35. The grant is aimed at companies with original, unpublished projects, and particular value will be attached to the innovative nature and solidity of the project. Works can be productions of classic or contemporary texts, new playwriting (originals or adaptations) or collective creation, must be ready for production and public presentation and must conform specifically to the conditions of Barcelona’s Sala Atrium.

  • Lease of the rehearsal room will be for 5 weeks between May and June 2020 (part-time), while concrete hours and dates will be negotiated with the grant-holding company. Throughout the 5-week residency at Nau Ivanow, the company will have access to the Creative Hub for management and production tasks.

  • The committee may declare the prize null and void.
  • Nau Ivanow and Sala Atrium, with their logos, will be included as co-producers in the credits and in all types of communication and dissemination material of future performances. During the period of rehearsals and performance established in the prize, the rights of performance of the work will be relinquished to Nau Ivanow and Sala Atrium.
  • During the weeks of rehearsal, the committee will engage in an evaluation of the work of the grant-winning collectives and supervise the completion of the established timetable.
  • The possible staging of performances in other theatres after the next season of dramatic creation, as a consequence of collaborations during the project with other institutions from the sector, will be a decision for the grant-winning company. The conditions of these performances will be agreed between the company and the theatre, without the participation of Nau Ivanow or Sala Atrium in either the negotiation or the costs generated by these events.
  • The grant for this season of drama is not incompatible with other prizes or subsidies, provided the work has never been performed in public.
