LA ESCOCESA ART RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTATION GRANTS

1 March, 2018 - 00:00 to 23 March, 2018 - 13:00

La Escocesa is opening an announcement for a grant aimed at both external and resident artists.

The La Escocesa Art Research and Experimentation Grants aim to promote individual or collective art through a research and experimentation project in the field of visual arts that will contribute with content, conceptualisation, methodology, planning, training and collectivisation strategies within a specific artistic line of work or centred around the work or artistic career of the applicant.

Artistic discipline

Visual arts

Who it is aimed at

Applicants must be able to demonstrate an ongoing artistic career and reside in the Barcelona area during the development period of this project. Artists currently in residence at La Escocesa who apply for the grant must be aware of their statutory obligations as partners of the Associació d’Idees EMA, which is responsible for the management of La Escocesa.

Compensation and amount

Applicants must provide a quote for the project and its related requirements which should include the following entries:

  • fees of the applying artist, calculated according to the criterion of a €40 meal allowance for each day that is dedicated to the project, although applicants can provide an overall estimate
  • fees of external agents involved in the project
  • costs for the production of the project and potential publications

The quote must be calculated according to a logic that is based on reducing expenses through the selection of the most economical and sustainable options that will still allow the proper development of the project. Proposals that can be carried out on a limited budget will be given special consideration. Under no circumstances can the requested amount exceed €1500 (gross).
The financial component of the grant will depend on whether the quote is adjusted to the project and the budget of La Escocesa. If it is deemed appropriate, the jury may offer the beneficiary a percentage of the requested amount, and will request that the applicant adjusts the timetable of the submitted project to the economic compensation being granted.

Application date

Until 23 March 2018 at 13:00

Terms

Awarding procedure
The awarding of this grant will be performed on the basis of competitive participation in accordance with the standards for objectivity, equality, anti-discrimination and publicity, thus guaranteeing the transparency of the actions involved in the process.

Period and location
Projects that receive grants must be carried out within a nine-month period that will start from the announcement of the allocation of the grant. It must be possible for the project to be carried out within said period.

It is expected that the actions included in the timetable can be executed, although the option of using spaces outside of the centre or carrying out actions that do not require a specific physical space can be considered.

Duties
The beneficiaries of the grant will be responsible for the correct development of the actions proposed in the timetable and included in the project.
In accordance with the payment calendar agreed upon with the management of La Escocesa, beneficiaries will receive the requested amount, or a proportional amount should the jury deem it appropriate, and will commit to ensuring that the budget is adjusted to the project as it unfolds.
The beneficiaries will commit to reporting to La Escocesa on a regular basis with regard to the actions and correct development of the project, and also regarding any modifications that may be required over the course of its realisation. A follow-up timetable will be agreed upon with the management of La Escocesa in accordance with the needs of each project.
La Escocesa will put its resources at the disposal of the needs of the beneficiaries to ensure the correct development of the project, in particular, through the provision of advice and ongoing support regarding conceptualisation, production and communication.
Beneficiaries commit to adhering to La Escocesa’s rules of use.
In the event that a beneficiary wishes to turn down the grant, La Escocesa must be informed immediately. Should this occur, La Escocesa reserves the right to fill the vacancy. The beneficiaries commit to including their status as beneficiaries of grants from La Escocesa in the credits of all their public interventions and in all communication and dissemination materials.
Once the agreed timetable expires, the beneficiaries commit to submitting a report on the project to La Escocesa within a maximum period of three months starting from the day after the end of their residence. This report must include the description of the stages that have been executed, the timetable and methodology used, and an explanation of the results that have been achieved. The document must be between 5 and 10 pages in length.
