Preview Residency

1 May, 2018 - 10:00 to 17 June, 2018 - 23:59

La Central del Circ has announced its call for applications for the final phase of the creative process.

This invitation is one of the residencies offered by La Central del Circ under different categories or creative transits. Each category is conceived as a creative stage that seeks to respond to the individual needs of each project according to its current state of development.

One proposal will be chosen from among all the applications for this grant.

Artistic Discipline

Circus

Candidate

This residency is aimed at professional circus companies, national or international, who are creating a show and reaching the end of their creative process. Preference will be given to Catalan and other Spanish companies, although applications from companies from other European countries will be considered.

It is vital that the creative process is in an advanced state of completion and that the show’s premiere is anticipated for 2018.

Residency Duration

The residency will take place between 25 September and 5 October, with a preview on Friday 5 October, 2018 at 8 pm.

Venue

La Central del Circ
Moll de la Vela, 2
08930 Barcelona

Application Deadline

Applications can be submitted until 17 June 2018

Conditions

The proposed project must be adapted to the technical possibilities of the mise-en-scène room of La Central del Circ, using a frontal or circle format (view here).

The company must bring its own lighting technician and, if necessary, a sound technician too.

The company will take part in the assembly and dismantling of the room. The dismantling will be done on the same night as the show, once the performance has finished.

La Central del Circ will fix an entrance fee of 4 € for the day of the production. Takings from the booking office will be used to defray part of the supply costs generated by the residency.

The successful company will receive:

  • use of the mise-en-scène room for a two-week residency and preview
  • technical support for the assembly and dismantling of circus apparatus (an essential requirement is that in no case will it replace the company’s own technical staff)
  • support for promotion to professionals (sector and programmers), press and general public; and for logistical matters (box office, ushers, etc.)
  • a bursary of 600 € for covering food, transport and accommodation costs for the company or artist during the residency. The final amount of the bursary may be increased in line with the number of company members and other assistance the project may receive. In the case of artists whose tax residency status is outside Spain, this amount is inclusive of tax.

An agreement will be drawn up between each chosen project and La Central del Circ.

The residency will last for two weeks to give space for rehearsals and design/lighting assemblage. Before the residency starts, the succesful company must arrange with La Central del Circ’s technician the days reserved for assemblage.

Assessment Criteria

Particular attention will be given to the artistic quality of the proposals and the technical level of the circus discipline (s) put forward.

Selection

Project selection will be undertaken by a commission made up of the Project Manager, Art Director and the Artistic Council of La Central del Circ, a group of artists with broad experience in their field and knowledge of the circus community.

Where the commission sees it appropriate, some candidates may be offered the "Micro-residencies" format (short residencies without financial assistance).

La Central del Circ reserves the right to declare any category of the grant unfilled.
