Residency Features

The person selected will have the opportunity to work alongside Hangar’s resident artists and/or other cultural actors based in Catalonia and/or other parts of Spain. Consequently, the selected candidate will be given a chance to research the wider arts context of Barcelona and Catalonia, as well as establish networks and dialogues with other local and international cultural participants.

Applicants must submit a proposal tailored to the general avenues of enquiry of Hangar and the Curators' Network. As mentioned above, the proposal must envisage a collaboration with other cultural agents (a maximum of 4), as well as a presentation of the results in a format other than that of a classical exhibition.

The selected candidates will be expected to carry out their project during the residency period.

Conditions

The residency is open to all cultural actors who as part of their practice usually work with artists, whether from an independent or institutional perspective (curators, researchers...)

  • There is no age limit.
  • Applicants must not currently be living or working in Catalonia.
  • Only one application per person or collective is permitted. Curator collectives must assign one of its members as the resident.

These partners must be subject to prior confirmation before submission of the application to the residency open call.
  • Projects can be motivated by a line of research on which the candidate is currently working or can be specifically geared towards this residency.
  • The applicant will be asked to present results of the residency at the end of their tenure as part of Hangar’s Paratext programme. This final presentation should investigate new and original ways of showing research and work, preferably also in a digital/online format.
  • The individual candidate will also have to explain the residency process on the Curators’ Network’s Art Spy Blog and explore opportunities to share the experience with their local environment.
  • Residency applicants must commit to being available during the residency period: January, February and March 2020.
