Graner Residencies 2020

The aim of these grants is to facilitate:

- The stimulus of professional career trajectories and creative processes.

- The stimulus of the visibility and knowledge of arts projects.

- The stimulus of the creative processes of emerging artists.

- The stimulus of arts research and management processes.

- The participation of artists in the governance of the creation centre.

 

The grant for 2020 residencies is comprised of 4 categories:

1. Associate artists

2. Creation residencies

3. Emerging artists

4. Research residencies

 

The same artist may apply for more than one category; however, if they are accepted, they can only receive one of the grants.

Arts Discipline

Language of the body and movement

Target Candidate

Local and international artists, collectives or other professionals working in the fields of dance and living arts and who are developing creation and research projects.

 

The application process is open to:

  • Natural persons.
  • Legal persons.
  • Public or private groups of natural or legal persons.
  • Joint ownership situations.
  • Any other type of economic unit or separate estate that, without having legal entity status, can carry out projects and activities or is in a position to merit the awarding of a grant.

Application Dates

Category A: Associate Artist (year 2020-2021)

1 place (2 years: 2020-21)

 

Category aimed at artists with a creation project in its research or production stage and who wish to establish a closer dialogue with Catalonia or have a base there.

 

Grant Amount

An annual financial endowment of 6900 Euros (the amount corresponding to the 2021 tax year will remain subject to the existence of approved and sufficient credit).

 

 

El Graner offers

  • Study and shared table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
  • Rest spaces according to availability and access to communal spaces and kitchen.
  • Possibility of carrying out a technical residency.
  • Backing based on the requirements of the arts project and in dialogue with the artist.
  • Participation in workshops and seminars.
  • Access to national and international networks.
  • Possibility of taking part in mediation projects developed by the centre.

 

Conditions

  • The artist in receipt of the creation grant in the ASSOCIATE ARTIST category at Graner will ultimately become a member of the Graner arts committee.  (Consult the committee’s functions at the rules)
  • The associate artist must establish a dialogue (relating to their practice or creative process) with some of El Graner’s different lines of work (mediation, support for emerging artists, research and new management models…).
  • Attendance at certain feedback sessions linked to overlapping with the processes of other residents is envisaged .
  • A public showing of the creation or research process is envisaged at the end of the residency (which will be recorded as proof of the work receiving a grant). The format will be decided with the centre according to project characteristics and the time of the performance.

 

Documentation

  • Fully-completed and signed application form according to the blueprint attached to the rules.
  • Photocopy of applicant’s DNI or NIE, or, in relevant cases, the person representing them.
  • A maximum of 5 pages explaining the main work concepts and arts projects that the creator intends to develop over the next two years (these may be to do with creation, research, writing, curatorship, education, etc.)
  • CV or narrative biography.
  • Links to previous works.
  • Video (attached or url link) lasting up to 4 minutes explaining reasons for wishing to be an associate artist at El Graner.
  • Predicted work timetable for 2020*

 

* Dates of work at El Graner will be negotiated with the artist according to the application and availability of spaces at the centre.

 

Assessment Criteria

  • Strength of submitted project and its viability.
  • Coherence in the development profile of its arts practice.
  • Level of interest within the context of contemporary dance and living arts.
  • Level of experimentation and degree of relevance to other areas of arts practice and thinking.
  • Trajectory of the artist or company
  • Desire and potential for contact with El Graner’s diverse lines of work and capacity to take part in the running of a creation centre.

The selection committee reserves the right to seek further information through a face-to-face interview.

Category B: Creation Residencies

4 places

 

Category aimed at local, national and international artists or collectives working in the fields of contemporary dance and living arts and that are currently in the production phase of their projects.

 

Grant Amount

A financial endowment of 3500 Euros

 

El Graner offers

  • Study and shared table wth access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
  • Rest areas according to availability and access to communal spaces and kitchen.
  • Possibility of doing a technical residency
  • Support and backing based on requirements of the arts project and in dialgoue with the artist.

 

Conditions

- A public showing of the creation or research process is envisaged at the end of the residency (which will be recorded as proof of the work receiving a grant). The format will be decided with the centre according to project characteristics and the time of the performance.

 

Documentation

  • Fully-completed and signed application form according to the blueprint attached to the rules.
  • Photocopy of applicant’s DNI or NIE, or, in relevant cases, the person representing them.
  • A maximum of 5 pages explaining the initiatives and work concepts of the project. As an alternative or complement to this document and bearing in mind the different moments or phases in which the projects submitted to category B find themselves, a brief synopsis of the project may be submitted alongside a video with material from the creation process up to its current state (rehearsals, access to the working processes, etc.).
  • CV or narrative biography of the artist or collective (and its members).
  • Links to a maximum of three previous works.
  • A document specifying support structures, at both the co-production level and in terms of residency spaces.
  • A proposal of the work timetable predicted for El Graner (work stages during 2020* can be divided into stays of between 1 week and 2 months).

 

* Dates of work at El Graner will be negotiated with the artist according to the application and availability of spaces at the centre.

 

Assessment Criteria

Category C: Emerging Artists

2 places

 

Category aimed at Catalonia-based artists and collectives at the initial stage of their professional activity, with up to two long premiered pieces already performed, and who are developing creation or research projects linked to contemporary dance and the living arts. The aim is to provide the selected artist or collective with specialist support and backing based on the specific requirements of the proposed creation process.

 

For this category a new partnership between El Graner and Can Gassol is underway, both entities giving joint support to the selected projects.

 

Grant Amount

A financial endowment of 1700 Euros

 

El Graner offers

  • Study and shared table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
  • Rest areas according to availability and access to communal spaces and kitchen. 
  • Possibility of generating moments for opening up the process, sharing work materials and establishing dialogue with other professionals.
  • Possibility of doing a technical residency.
  • Artistic backing agreed with the artist in line with project requirements.
  • Consultation in the production.
  • Access to national and international networks.

 

Conditions

- A public showing of the creation or research process is envisaged at the end of the residency (which will be recorded as proof of the work receiving a grant). The format will be decided with the centre according to project characteristics and the time of the performance.

  • Photocopy of applicant’s DNI or NIE, or, in relevant cases, the person representing them.
  • A maximum of 5 pages explaining the initiative and the areas of work to be carried out.
  • As an alternative or complement to this document and bearing in mind the different moments or phases in which the projects submitted to the EMERGING ARTISTS category, a brief synopsis of the project may be submitted alongside a video with material from the creation process up to its current state (rehearsals, access to the working processes, etc), and other types of complementary material.
  • CV or narrative biography of the artist or collective (and its members).
  • Links to previous works.
  • A proposal of the work timetable predicted for El Graner (work stages during 2020* can be divided into stays of between 1 week and 2 months).

Assessment Criteria

  • Artistic coherence of the proposal.
  • Interest of the research within the fields of contemporary dance and the living arts.
  • Research into an individual form of self-expression.
  • Level of connection of the project with other areas of arts practice and thinking.

Category D: Research Residencies

2 places

 

Category aimed at managers, researchers, artists and collectives, from local, national and international contexts, working in the areas of contemporary dance and the living arts and who are developing research projects in one or more of the following lines of work:

  1. Where choreography, the body and movement are the central axis of the research project, with submissions open to projects of writing and methodological and pedagogical research linked to the creation of performances, shows, etc.
  2. Proposing a piece of research about management models in the field of the performing arts, that might include an investigation of new methods of production, distribution, organisation, curatorial practices, etc.

 

Grant Amount

A financial endowment of 2300 Euros

 

El Graner offers

  • Study and shared table with access to computer, printer, scanner and telephone.
  • Rest areas according to availability and access to communal spaces and kitchen. 
  • Backing based on project requirements.  
  • Access to national and international networks.

 

Conditions

- A public showing of the creation or research process is envisaged at the end of the residency (which will be recorded as proof of the work receiving a grant). The format will be decided with the centre according to project characteristics and the time of the performance.

Selection

  • One member chosen the APDC.
  • One member chosen by the ACPDC.
  • One expert in living arts from a local or international context
  • One resident artist at El Graner.
  • The performing arts technician at the Ajuntament de Mataró or a member chosen to represent them (only for the EMERGING ARTIST category)
  • The Director of the Mercat de les Flors or a member chosen by the Committee.
  • The coordinator of El Graner.

Applications may be submitted in person at the Registre del Consorci Mercat de les Flors (c. Lleida, 59, 2a planta, 08004, Barcelona) between 9am and 2pm or online via the Mercat de les Flors website.
