Regina Silveira, Mar Arza, Clemente Bernad and Josep Iglésias del Marquet

16.11.2024 – 26.01.2025

Free weekly guided tours of the exhibitions on display at La Virreina Centre de la Imatge, in Catalan and Spanish:

REGINA SILVEIRA. DESTRUCTURES FOR POWER
A multimedia artist and leading figure in Latin American and international Conceptual Art, Regina Silveira (Porto Alegre, 1939) was one of the first to experiment with new media in Brazil. This exhibition encompasses a large part of her oeuvre and includes a considerable body of works produced during the military dictatorship in Brazil which shed light on the present day.

MAR ARZA. SOTAVEU
This first retrospective of the work of Mar Arza (Castellón de la Plana, 1976) features seven projects never shown before, conceived for the occasion, alongside fifteen pieces, spanning two decades of the artist’s career. The title of the exhibition is an allusion to that multitude of voices which, on the basis of certain forms of vulnerability, repeatedly strike against any attempt to take control of our words.

CLEMENTE BERNAD. HEMENDIK HURBIL / PROP D'AQUÍ
Hemendik Hurbil / Close Enough presents a photographic frieze on the lengthy cycle of violence that began in the 1960s in the Basque Country. Clemente Bernad (Pamplona / Iruñea, 1963) does not reject the tenets of photojournalism, but he does strenuously refuse to abandon his photographs and leave them in the hands of the media. All in order to prevent the violence from spreading.

JOSEP IGLÉSIAS DEL MARQUET. POETRY, TYPOGRAPHY AND MASS COMMUNICATION
Josep Iglésias del Marquet (Artesa de Lleida, 1932 - Barcelona, 1989) was a painter, art critic, visual poet and journalist, as well as a pioneer of concrete poetry and mail art in Catalonia. This exhibition presents collages that have never been exhibited before and printmaking that reflect his interest in typography and new systems of communication.
