In the centenary year since the death of Lluís Domènech i Montaner, Barcelona City Council and Triangle Books bring together in a single book the finest experts on the architect and his buildings, the idea being to understand the multi-faceted personality of a leading artist in the history of European art and to interpret his work.
Entitled Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Home de la Renaixença. Arquitecte del Modernisme, the volume will be presented on Monday, 18 December, in the rehearsal room of the Orfeó Català choir at the Palau de la Música Catalana, at 6 pm. The participants areMireia Freixa, the book’s editor, and Marta Grassot, director of the Documentation Centre for the Orfeó Català, as well as Clàudia Sanmartí, from the Fundació Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and Gemma Martí, from the Centre d’Estudis Lluís Domènech i Montaner, both co-curators for Domènech i Montaner Year 2023. The ceremony will be concluded by Lluís Domènech i Girbau, member of the Trust for the Fundació Orfeó Català – Palau de la Música Catalana and vice-chair of the board of directors for the Orfeó Català choir.
The book starts with some introductory articles that present the architect in the context of European Art Nouveau and explains the different sides to it: civic, political, academic etc. It continues with monographs of his buildings, from the Editorial Montaner i Simon (1979-1881) to the Casa Fuster (1908-1911) and of course the Palau de la Música and the Hospital de Sant Pau, both world heritage sites.
