Barcelona City Council's publishing imprint presents a new website that highlights the extensive catalogue of books it offers on the city and people of Barcelona, and its own unique contribution to the dissemination of local knowledge.
The Barcelona Llibres website has been revamped to offer a fuller and more structured presentation of all the titles in the municipal publications catalogue. A very extensive catalogue of books that was created in the 1980s, when Maria Aurèlia Capmany was Councillor for Culture and Publications at the City Council, and one that is constantly growing, at a rate of fifty new books a year.
The new website provides information on all the titles published and co-published by Barcelona Llibres that are available in shops, as well as digital publications that can be downloaded free of charge. The books are classified according to subject matter, and divided into twelve collections: “Gent de Barcelona” [People of Barcelona], “Barcelona Ecologia” [Ecological Barcelona], “Barcelona Present i Futur” [Barcelona, Present and Future], “Barcelona Arquitectura i Urbanisme” [Barcelona, Architecture and Urban Planning], “Barcelona Literària” [Literary Barcelona], “Barcelona en Vinyetes” [Snapshots of Barcelona], “Barcelona Beceroles” [ABC of Barcelona], “Barcelona Ciutat i Barris” [Barcelona, the City and its Neighbourhoods], “Darrere la Càmera” [Behind the Camera], “Arts a la Ciutat” [The Arts in the City], and “Carnet de Voyage” [Ticket to Ride].
There’s also a whole section dedicated to promoting co-publishing projects, with the aim of gathering proposals from the public and working with the publishing sector to produce new books. Every six months (in January and July) the website will feature selection processes for choosing new co-publishing projects.
You’ll also find news and a calendar with the most important activities related to the publishing house, such as book presentations at book fairs like the Frankfurt Book Fair and Liber, and at events such as Sant Jordi’s Day and Catalan Book Week. All these new features will also be included in the new ‘Barcelona Llibres Newsletter’, which you can subscribe to via the link on the website: https://comunica.barcelona.cat/form/barcelonallibres/ca
Barcelona Llibres is something rather unique in the great cities of the world, and a point of reference. The new website is a key tool for continuing to make progress in the dissemination of local knowledge, channelling the creative drive and helping to distribute the books.
