Environmental restoration of Parc del Laberint d'Horta
The strategy for geographical diversification of the tourism offer includes the environmental restoration of the parc del Laberint d’Horta.
The project, carried out by the Municipal Institute of Parks and Gardens, aims to renovate the plant labyrinth in the Laberint d’Horta Labyrinth.
The garden is currently classified as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest (BCIL), while its designation as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) is in progress. This garden dates back to the 18th-century garden (1791), making it one of the oldest in Barcelona, and is well-preserved. Since 1994, when a thorough restoration was carried out, the garden has been managed as a museum garden. Access is controlled, and along with Park Güell, it is one of the only gardens in the city where visitors must pay to enter. Moreover, it is the only plant labyrinth in the city and one of the few in Spain that is both so old and of such significant heritage value.
The proposed project involves the complete refurbishment of the plant labyrinth (a space with 1.5 kilometres of paths lined with cypress trees), to ensure that this highly valuable garden feature is in perfect condition. The project includes a comprehensive historical study that will ensure a restoration that respects this heritage asset. Furthermore, the use of innovative graphic representation techniques (point clouds, 3D technology, etc.) will facilitate the restoration of the garden, allowing visitors to enjoy it as it was in its original form.
The labyrinth is a popular tourist destination due to its high heritage value, but it is located away from the usual tourist circuits. Therefore, the project will help promote a dispersal in the distribution of tourists.
