IEET: Tax on stays in tourist establishments

Taxation of the tourism sector and its contribution to the residents

The tax on stays in tourist establishments (IEET) is a tax created by the Generalitat de Catalunya which has been in effect since November 2012. By law, the income from it must be allocated to fostering, boosting, preserving, promoting and developing tourist infrastructures and activities in Catalonia.

What is the IEET?

The tax on stays in tourist establishments (IEET) was created by the Generalitat de Catalunya and has been in effect since November 2012. By law, the income from it must be allocated to fostering, boosting, preserving, promoting and developing tourist infrastructures and activities in Catalonia.

The rates, applied per person per night for up to a maximum of seven nights, vary depending on the type of tourist establishment and reflect the distinctive character of the city of Barcelona.
