Election results in Gràcia
One of the priorities of the new democratic city council was the decentralisation of municipal power linked to greater citizen participation. So, based on the municipal election results in the districts, they were able to constitute 12 District Municipal Councils, each comprising 15 councillors nominated by the parties and coalitions in proportion to the results obtained. The position of chair was reserved for a city councillor from the party that had achieved the most votes in each district.
The election results in District VIII, which covered Gràcia and Coll-Vallcarca, meant the PSC was the party with the most votes, followed by CiU and CC-UCD in third place. Behind them came the PSUC, ERC and CD-AP.
With this electoral correlation, the first District VIII Municipal Council was formed on 14 September 1979 by 4 PSC councillors, 4 from CiU, 2 from PSUC, 2 from CC-UCD, 1 from ERC, 1 from CD-AP and 1 from the Catalan Left Block, ceded by the socialists. The position of Council chair fell to the socialist Mercè Sala.
