16 BARRIS 1000 CIUTATS

Author/s
D. A. (Photography), Valentín Roma, Teresa Caldeira and Frits Gierstberg

Photographic essay on the civic, social and urban transformations of sixteen of Barcelona's neighbourhoods. The aim of the publication is to compile the photographic-documentation process of sixteen peripheral neighbourhoods in the city’s imagery and to offer a more complex, authentic and fair look at Barcelona over the last few years. It features photographs by several authors from neighbourhoods that are not usually part of the stereotyped vision of Barcelona, transformed in a common thread for presenting a city under permanent transformation. The interviews and essays collected in the book set out the project’s vicissitudes, critical reflections around the new types of collective life in big cities around the world and, finally, a debate around the history of institutional photographic missions from the end of the 19th century to today.
